The work shown in the submitted images is rooted in Katagami, antique Japanese kimono fabric stencils dating from the 16th to 19th century. I reinterpret these and other historical patterns alongside my own hand-drawn text and imagery to create contemporary surfaces. The patterns are electroetched into metal, lost wax cast or transferred using a rolling mill. The textured metal is then hand-sawn, die-cut, and formed using a combination of hand tools and hydraulic press tooling. Soldering and cold connection techniques complete each piece. Through these processes, I combine historical pattern, handwork, and and contemporary design to create wearable art.\u003c\/p\u003e","products":[],"url":"https:\/\/piedmontcraftsmen.shop\/collections\/novie-sia.oembed","provider":"Piedmont Craftsmen Craft Shop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
