Richard Mayberry

In working from the photograph, much of the immediacy, impact and presence of the subject is lost. What is gained is a “still life” of patterns. This variety of interlocking shapes becomes the basis of my work. I take many photos of whole landscapes and piece them together to form panoramic scenes that recreate a portion of my world. In this series of photographs I look for possibilities. Do I have a spiritual attachment to the place? Does the photographed scene have movement, a sense of interlocking, rhythmical pattern? Does the composition entice the viewer in to wander and perhaps get lost in the at recreated world? The drawings, and the drawing stages in making a multiple, are done using no preliminary sketches or projections.
