Collection: Vincent Sansone
Vincent Sansone is a professional potter and arts educator. Besides the Armored Cat, he continues to make other things such as fish, roadsters, unibombers, and functional clayware. Even he doesn't know where the journey will lead but he plays the journey to its end. The serious-looking face is a caricature of his own face, which reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously because everyone else can see how ridiculous our self-importance makes us look. With his artwork there are always unforeseen twists and turns that lead to new directions. The work continues in a whimsical vein with emphasis still on visual puns. Some of the subject matter of his sculptures suggests the cartoons. The work continues with a life of its own, each piece giving way to many ideas for the next so that he must choose which idea has the most fertile possibilities.
"Often I’m asked why are all the faces so serious looking? My answer is the face is a caricature of my own face, an image I’ve used in my artwork for over 30 years since being in college. The serious look is to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously because everyone else can see how ridiculous our self-importance makes us look. What about the bird? What is this? You writin’ a book or something? I don’t know, they’re just for fun. I make them and where they find purchase is where they go. You got anymore questions talk to my lawyer."
