Red's Resilience

"Red's Resilience". Glass sculpture inspired by Little Red Riding Hood". 27"L x 17"W x 7"H.

This sculpture is all glass using several different techniques.

The base is 2 sheets of clear with colored powder glass & colored glass frit fused together in the kiln to a contour firing.

The cape, branches & twigs were made with a type of “modeling glass”, colored glass powders were mixed with a binder that creates a type of “clay” consistency. Once pieces were rolled out and/or shaped, they were placed on & in a handmade form, then placed in the kiln and fired. During the firing process the binder burns away, and the glass powder fuses to itself, much like the Pate de Verre process.

The leaves were made using an open face pate de Verre process. Leaves were picked, then used to make an open face silica mold, 3 layers of colored glass powder were then sifted onto mold, then fired in the kiln. Leaves were then put back into the kiln at a lower temp overtop of clay mold I made to get the movement.
