Collection: Allison Daniel
My work is primarily dinnerware made from ceramic materials local to the piedmont and central regions of North Carolina. I have a focus on dinnerware because connection is the central theme of my work. I’m inspired by mod design from the 60s, the paintings of Jim Nutt, Gladys Nilsson, Philip Guston, Hilma af Klint and Arts and Crafts Movement philosophy. This influence can be seen in the simplicity of my forms decorated with cartoonish patterning. The rhythm of patterning on my pots references window panes, time, and domestic textiles. I typically fire my pieces at midrange in atmospheric kilns to conserve energy and bring out the warm tones of the clay.
