Clay
Mars Hill, NC | Provisional Artist 2026
My wheel-thrown, slipcast, and hand-built work features imagery I collect and create printed on at the leatherhard stage. My slipcast work is made in molds I make from my wheel-thrown models. I incorporate graphics into my work through the use of a lithographic printing method onto porcelain. Images are transferred from paper photocopies which are coated with a binder. Ink made from oil and stain coat the paper three times, are rinsed and blotted before being applied, then burnished onto the clay surface. Forms are finished with original glazes carefully mixed and weighed to preserve the images and patterns underneath. I enhance my surfaces further with multiple firings, often adding modern or vintage decal imagery, and metallic lusters.
