Clay
Greensboro, NC | Provisional Artist 2026
This body of work utilizes my love of sculpting to process my observation of the natural world: its profusion, its decay, its resilience. Simultaneously, it draws on the abiding environmental grief I feel as I watch the world irrevocably destroyed for profit. To create these pieces, I sculpt elements like fossils, leaves, mushroom gills, twigs, eyes, and bones. These sculpted elements I bisque and then press into soft clay. I carefully remove the sculpted pieces and then bisque the resulting clay negatives. This process gives me molds from which I can pull clay iterations of my forms, which I combine and recombine into vessels and sculptures. I finish them by applying cone 6 glazes which flow and blend to highlight the intricate textures.
