Wood
Mount Ulla, NC | Provisional Artist 2026
I work with wood and turn it on a lathe into different shapes. Half of my work is turned green from freshly cut logs that I have bought or been given. The other half is turned from dry, highly figured planks and cut-offs that I have purchased and collected for 50 years. I primarily use an Elsworth (fingernail) gouge to turn blocks of wood into pleasant shapes. Shape matters. My goal as an artist is not to ruin a beautiful piece of wood by turning it into an ugly object.
