Backyard Honey Bees

"Backyard Honey Bees" by Exhibiting Artist Member, Jean Cheely . Kiln fired sheet glass, frit, stringers, cut-rods for the meadow. The comb is made from glass and glass decals (fired in stages). The bees are torch fired glass, repurposed pine. 

Measures: 12.25"x12.25"x2.5"

The “Way” of honey bees from hive to the garden and beyond, then back to the hive.

Without our flowering plants, the honey bees would not be able to collect
   the pollen and nectar they need for food.
The nurse bees build a comb so that the forager bees can collect and
   deposit the nectar into the comb cells.
My inspiration for this “Map” is my backyard where my husband has
   five bee hives. He is also an avid gardener.
He planted a “pollinator” garden near the path from my indoor studio to
   my outdoor kiln house where I can watch the bees work as I take my 
   glass to be fired.

My “Map” is simply to show a garden that the bees visit and then return to the hive to deposit the nectar in the comb cells with they condense into honey.
