A map is a visual guide to a destination.   When I was young, I would write on my Atlas map to remember my discoveries. I started painting maps of my memories as a way to record the experiences. 

Cedar Key was the center of pencil production in 1862.  The red cedar trees were harvested to produce Eberhard Faber number two pencils!  Who doesn't love a pencil?

Cedar Key is a hidden gem.  Located southwest of Gainesville, Florida.  It sits three miles out in the Gulf of Mexico. Known for gorgeous sunsets, abundant fishing, beautiful birds, it is surrounded by small islands.   

For me, a map is a guide, but I am not afraid to go off course and discover.  Every painting starts with an idea, notes and a map to lead the way.  What happens in the process of creating is adventure!
