Mokume-gane, an ancient Japanese sword making process of laminated contrasting
metals was produced in the 1700’s for Samuri swords. The unique process was
adapted by metalsmiths to create unique “wood grained metal” with natural repeating
curvilinear patterns. The mokume-gane metal used in these earrings is a combination of
silver and copper and references topographical maps, water ways or aerial views of
streets.
