I love using a lot of texture on clay, and I find that many common things like shells, clock parts, keys, etc., will make exceptional impressions in the clay. I enjoy combining the impressions of objects along with using parts of the real object to create a sculptural element on my work. I also appreciate the beautiful sound the rainstick will make when held in a vertical position, allowing the beans inside to tinkle down against the channel of nails stuck into the cylinder. The clay cylinders and bases are handbuilt from slabs of clay, dried, and then bisque fired; underglazes and glazes are applied and wiped off and the clay is fired to Cone 05. The found objects are glued and/or are attached to the finished clay with black waxed linen.
